Telefonica Board Meets To Discuss Endemol Sale

Telefonica executives are to meet today to discuss the sale of its production subsidiary Endemol.

Options which could be discussed at the board meeting in Madrid include an open auction or an invitation to the major groups who have shown an interest in the Big Brother producer.

Groups which have been linked to the sale include Endemol founder Jon De Mol, Rupert Murdoch (see Rupert Murdoch Could Bid For Endemol) and Endemol’s chief creative officer Peter Bazalgate.

It is expected that the sale process will take around six months to complete.

Endemol is also holding an extraordinary general meeting today to seek shareholders’ approval for the acquisition of Endemol France.

Endemol recently agreed a deal to buy back Endemol France from owner Telefonica for around £300 million (see Endemol Acquires French Endemol Division).
