According to a recent survey by Folio:, a trade magazine for magazine publishers, more than 200 of the top 500 magazines in the US distribute free online newsletters believeing this to be a good way to drive traffic to their sites.
Click through rates for the newsletters were disappointing however, with only 9% believing that rates stood above 20%, a third said the rates were 5% or more and almost half of thos equestioned said they were below 5%.
