New Technology To Grow In Outdoor Advertising

The new technology sector in outdoor advertising, which includes screens, video walls and interactive kiosks, is set to increase its revenue from £2.7 million to £8.7 million by the end of the year, according to a report by Outdoor Connection.

Nearly 82% of the total revenue for the new technology sector is generated in leisure environments such as football and rugby stadia, music festivals and other live events, but investment by major contractors, particularly in the transport sector, is expected drive future growth.

Director of Outdoor Connection, Andrew Allerton, said: “The explosion of new technology in outdoor offers a multitude of new opportunities for advertisers. The previously static outdoor message can now have movement and sound and the ability to target by day part or modal relevance.”

The New Technology report predicts that the sector, which was worth just £100,000 five years ago, will increase its revenue four-fold this year. It also found that 71% of broadcast directors believe that the new technology should fall under the umbrella of outdoor rather than TV.
