US Firms Reluctant To Commit To Broadband

A new survey from In-Stat/MDR indicates that business broadband usage is likely to grow in the next few years. However, these findings are tempered by claims that the technology will largely be confined to non-essential applications in small remote branch offices or for home workers.

The research found that over a fifth of large US companies have no intention of using broadband in their main office locations. In branch office locations, 42% of enterprise decision-makers specified a preference for DSL over cable, fixed wireless and satellite Internet services. This compares with a figure of 37% in main office locations.

Nearly 70% of those surveyed said that security and hosted or Internet-accessible applications were key factors in determining a company’s main office bandwidth requirements.
