Booz Allen examined statistical indicators and government policies in every G7 country plus Sweden and Australia to see how they affected e-commerce. It concluded that the US, the UK and Canada had developed the best environment for e-commerce, through a combination of policy decisions and other factors.
“The countries with the most advanced e-economies got an early start and haven’t looked back,” said Booz Allen Vice President Barrie Berg. “They have succeeded by maintaining their commitment to drive e-access into all aspects of society.”
The citizens of Canada, Sweden and the US are the most involved in e-commerce while business e-maturity, the adoption and use of online technologies to change the way businesses work, is most developed in the US and Sweden.
Earlier this week, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair cited the Booz Allen report in his speech to delegates at the E-Summit in London (see Blair Reiterates Commitment To Broadband). He admitted that the UK had failed to reach its target of being the best environment for e-commerce and pledged more money to encourage widespread access to broadband services.
