Consumer Spending On Movie & TV Downloads To Increase

A new report from Adams Media Research forecasts that annual consumer spending on downloads of movies and TV will top $4 billion in 2011.

The market researcher says that video downloads will grow gradually as internet TV devices gain increasing acceptance amongst consumers, with Tom Adams, Adams Media Research president, saying: “The internet is going to revolutionise the distribution of video.”

Adams forecasts that advertiser spending on internet video streams to PCs and TVs will approach $1.7 billion by 2011.

The market researcher adds that sales of video downloads will total $472 million in 2007, $1.2 billion in 2008, $2 billion in 2009, $3.1 billion in 2010, then hit $4.1 billion in 2011.

Recent research from Informa Telecoms & Media revealed that legitimate online TV and video services will generate revenues of US$6.3 billion in 2012 (see Online TV Revenues To Grow Massively).

In other research, Nielsen Analytics revealed that advertisers and television programmers are finding new and more lucrative advertising opportunities with broadband video (see Ad Opportunities To Grow With Broadband Video).
