The latest RAJAR figures for Q4 2009 reveal a 0.5% year on year increase in weekly reach for All Commercial Radio, taking its total to just under 31.4 million listeners a week.
All BBC, meanwhile, suffered a slight year on year dip of 0.8%, taking its weekly reach to just under 33.3 million listeners.
Looking at the national stations, BBC Radio 2’s weekly reach was relatively static year on year, although it suffered a slight fall of 1.1% on Q3 2009, leaving its total at around 13.5 million listeners. Of the commercial nationals, Classic FM remained the station with the largest reach, although it was down 10% on Q4 2008, leaving its total at just over 5.1 million
Focussing on London, for the first time in over two years, Magic 105.4 no longer has the largest weekly reach of all the London stations, pushed into third place by Heart 106.2 FM and 95.8 Capital Radio.
In terms of breakfast shows in the capital, Johnny Vaughan on 95.8 Capital Radio remains on top with a weekly reach of more than 1.2 million listeners, following an impressive 25.5% year on year increase.
Vaughan’s closest competitor is the Heart 106.2 FM breakfast show, which suffered a 9% year on year drop during the period, taking its total down to 790,000 listeners
And as the 2015 FM switchoff date looms ever nearer, DAB set ownership increased by 13% year on year, said RAJAR, with 17.1 million adults aged 15+ now claiming to live in a household which has a DAB receiver.
DAB listening commands a 13.7% share of all radio listening according to the latest data, up 20 percentage points year on year.
