Adshel Secures Ten Year Birmingham Bus Contract

Clear Channel-owned outdoor advertiser Adshel has announced what it claims is the largest street furniture deal in 20 years, covering bus shelters around the outer circle of Birmingham city centre for the next decade.

The contract, which covers the whole of the west midlands, was awarded to Adshel by transport firm Centro as part of a wide-ranging review of its bus shelter operations. The deal will bring the firm guaranteed income for the next decade and is expected to generate around £60 million towards shelter upgrades and improvements.

The routes populated by Adshel’s street furniture are the longest in Europe, with the Birmingham Outer Circle line topping the chart at 27 miles long. The route has also been designated a “showcase route” by Birmingham City Council, earmarking it for significant investment in shelters, platforms, CCTV and digital information displays.

Centro will invest around £25 million on the route over five years to further improve passenger services around the city’s perimeter.

Last month saw Adshel sign an exclusive deal with supermarket giant Somerfield to provide point-of-sale advertising space across its 332 UK stores. The deal is a pivotal move for the outdoor specialist, building its brand in the FMCG sector, but will also benefit from a planned multi-million pound upgrade of the supermarket chain’s stores.
