Apple and Disney double subs prices in 5 years

Apple TV+ and Disney+ have increased prices by the largest amounts since their launch, with an annual average hike of 18%.

An analysis by digital marketing agency Searchbloom compared the historical data of the 10 main streaming platforms available in the US.

Since their launch in November 2019, Apple TV+ and Disney+ have both seen their subscription prices double in the space of five years.

The price of Apple TV+ rose from $4.99 to $9.99, after two successive increases, the first in June 2021 and the second in October 2023. For its part, Disney+ has increased its rates three times, from $6.99 to $13.99.

On average, Apple TV+ adjusted its prices every 17 months, while Disney+ changed them every year.

Netflix, still leader with more moderate increases

In third place, Netflix has recorded an average annual increase of 5.4% since 2011, a rate three times lower than that of Apple TV+ and Disney+. Initially offered at $7.99, the Netflix subscription gradually reached $15.49 in January 2024. The service has made three price increases in 12 years, a revision every three years on average.

Peacock is in fourth place with an average increase of 5.3% per year. Launched in July 2020 at $9.99, the price of its subscription increased to $11.99 in January 2024, with a price revision every 21 months on average. Hulu closes the top five with an average annual increase of 5%, having increased from $11.99 in 2015 to $17.99 in 2024.

Crunchyroll stands out as the only streaming service whose price has remained unchanged since its launch in August 2020. With a constant cost of $7.99 per month, the platform specialised in Japanese animation is positioned as an exception in a sector marked by regular increases in subscription rates.
