Australian Net Access Grows

According to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Satistics, the six largest ISPs now provide internet access to over 56% (2.2 million) of all Australian net users and the number of ISPs fell by 4% during Q1 2001.

The number of Australians online grew by 47,000 in the same period and of the 4 million current subscribers, 3.5 million are home users and 482,000 are business or government users.

Queensland saw the greatest increase in subscribers regionally with an additional 51,000 signing up for net access in the three months to March 2001.
