The BBC has appointed John McAndrew as its new director of news programmes.
McAndrew most recently worked as the launch editor for The Andrew Neil Show at Channel 4. Previously, he was editorial director and director of news and programmes at GB News, before leaving suddenly in July 2021, Neil, who fronted the launch of GB News a month earlier, took a leave of absence a fortnight after its 13 June launch and did not return.
McAndrew also worked in senior roles for the BBC, Sky News, ITN and NBC International over his 25-year career.
The new title effectively replaces that of senior controller, programmes and commissioning, which was previously held by Jamie Angus.
McAndrew will start the job in the new year.
