BBC Drops Davina After Dismal Chat Debut

Davina McCall Davina McCall will not be returning to her self-titled chat show, the BBC has confirmed, following a string of ratings failures which saw the programme crushed by opposition from rival broadcasters.

Confirming the Corporation’s decision to drop the programme, Peter Fincham, controller of BBC One, said: “Davina played in a very challenging slot on BBC. It’s right for BBC One to take risks and I’m glad we did it.

“At the moment we don’t have any plans to bring Davina back but we remain committed to working with Davina McCall on a long term basis.”

Jon Beazley, controller of entertainment commissioning at the BBC added: “Taking on a chat show was always a tough challenge and I want to thank Davina and the production team for their hard work on the series.”

The presenter will next appear on the BBC co-presenting Sport Relief alongside Chris Evans and Gary Lineker. The programme will air in July, giving the TV host a two month break from broadcasting on any BBC channels.
