BBC’s New Tricks Puts An End To Sharpe’s Challenge

New Tricks BBC One’s detective drama New Tricks delivered a blow to the concluding part of ITV1’s Sharpe’s Challenge last night, drawing 6.4 million compared to the commercial giant’s 5.5 million.

The evening was not a total triumph for the BBC however, as ITV’s Coronation Street double bill saw both episodes top the 9 million mark, while BBC One’s Eastenders drew 8.7 million in the intervening half hour.

Channel 4’s Wife Swap continued to prove its appeal meanwhile, notching up an average adult audience of 2.7 million.

Elsewhere, Five’s Extraordinary People series continued to perform well, with Identical Quads, the story of quadruplet sisters born in 2000, attracting an audience of 1.5 million.
