Britain’s Home Internet Access Reaches 40% Of Adults

Almost 40% of British adults now have home internet access and six service providers each control more than 5% of this total subscriber base, according to data from Forrester Research released today.

The research company says that the penetration of home Net access has risen from 32% of adults to 40% in only the last six months.

Freeserve remains Britain’s number one home ISP, with 26% of users, although it has lost some market share in the last half year. AOL has gained ground, narrowing Freeserve’s lead from 10% to 7%. AOL is also the only ISP to show a majority of female users, reflecting the gender mix of the population at large.
