Satellite giants, BSkyB, are tipped to announce a strong performance in quarter two, with profits almost doubling, taking the group’s expected total for the last quarter to between £362 million and £366 million.
City analysts, however, predict a more optimistic growth, forecasting subscribers to be up 150,000 as a result of a major Sky advertising campaign over the festive season. The broadcaster recently broadened its sales channels to include retailers such as Woolworths, Argos and Tesco, in an effort to boost subscriber numbers.
Analysts Teather & Greenwood said: “We believe that following press speculation of a positive consumer response to Sky’s intensive marketing campaign, the market expectation is for over 150,000 new subscribers and anything less will be a disappointment”.
The announcement of Sky’s results for quarter two will be made this Wednesday.
