Carat Boss Mills Steps Down After Eleven Years

Colin Mills, managing director of media agency, Carat, has announced that he will leave the company at the end of this week with no new role to go to.

The move will end Mills’ eleven-year career with the company, six of which were spent as managing director when Mills was given the post as Mark Craze’s replacement in 1998.

The company’s commercial director, Neil Jones, will fill Mills’ shoes as acting managing director until a long-term replacement for Mills has been found.

Commenting on the appointment, Nigel Sharrocks, chief executive of Carat’s parent company, Aegis Media UK & Ireland, said: “Colin has done a great job particularly over the past 6 years as Managing Director and while his enormous energy and commitment will be missed, he leaves behind an outstanding management team and a business in great shape.”

Mills added: “I am proud of what the team at Carat have achieved but after 11 years, with six as MD, I feel it’s time to move on to an exciting new challenge. My immediate intention is to take a short sabbatical whilst I consider my options both inside and outside the advertising business.”

Carat recently pledged to increase its customer focus, creating a new customer communications planning team to facilitate the change, and claiming to be the first agency to help clients understand existing customers and better target their campaigns (see Carat Creates New Team For Increased Customer Focus).
