Channel 4 Could Launch Freeview Music Channel

Channel 4 Logo Channel 4 could launch a music channel on Freeview, according to Rod Henwood, the broadcaster’s new business director.

In an interview in the Times Henwood said that Channel 4 is aiming to launch a new channel to fill the Freeview slot left vacant by the sell-off of quiz channel Quiz Call in November.

Although Henwood said that music is one of the genres being considered for the slot, he denied that there are live talks to invest in Emap’s suite of music channels.

The Times interview adds that the broadcaster could be keen on getting into exhibitions after it took a half share in the food event Taste, and will also attempt to expand its DVD distribution business.
