CNN lays off ‘hundreds’ of staff

CNN has laid off “hundreds” of staff, according to reports, after chairman and CEO Chris Licht was ordered by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery to cut costs.

According to CNBC, the layoffs remained in the “single-digits” as a percentage of CNN’s total staff. CNN employed around 4,400 employees, meaning cuts were supposedly kept below 440.

In a memo circulated to staff, Licht announced broad restructuring of multiple departments at the media company, including reductions in creative marketing and programming teams, and that CNN will no longer produce live content for sister channel HLN.
