The latest EMS 2007 Winter Survey shows that the most watched pan-European TV channel was Eurosport, with MTV in second place.
The 2007 survey shows that Eurosport had a weekly reach of 31.2%, down from 32.4% in 2006, while MTV recorded a reach of 26.6%, down from 28.3% in 2006.
In third place was the French/German channel Arte, with a weekly reach of 25%, while the Discovery Channel was in fourth with 19%.
The countries included in the survey are Austria, Belgium/Luxembourg, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
The EMS survey showed that CNN was the top news channel, with a weekly reach of 24.4%, down from 25.7% in the 2006 survey, while BBC World’s weekly reach grew from 11.8% in 2006 to 12% in 2007.
The EMS Select survey, which covers the top 3% of individuals in each of the 16 survey countries in Europe, also placed Eurosport at the top of the table, with a reach of 34.2%.
A recent report from In-Stat found that Europe is leading the world in the fast-growing digital terrestrial platform (DTT), although other regions are gaining momentum (see Europe Leading The World In DTT Growth).
In-Stat said that with digital switchover approaching there are strong drivers for DTT set-top boxes on the horizon as consumers move from analogue to digital.
