February Is Record Breaking Month For WAP

WAP page impressions in the UK hit record levels in February, reaching 1.2 billion, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA). This is up by 62 million on January 2004.

The total, taken from GSM net operators O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, takes the daily average to 43 million. This is 5 million more than the 38 million pages viewed on an average day in January.

The MDA says that figures are being boosted by services providers are now offering. These include the ability to locate the nearest cash point, taxi stand or restaurant. Mike Short, MDA chairman said: “These figures help illustrate how more people are making use of services provided by WAP.”

MDA expect WAP page impressions to reach 13 billion this year. Each month, statistics will be issued and reviewed by MDA.
