Five Moves Trisha To Compete In Chatshow Showdown

Five has announced that Trisha Goddard, its high-profile chat show, will move to a morning slot as part of a new look daytime schedule, putting the former ITV1 golden girl in direct competition with the station’s newest acquisition, and chat show king, Jerry Springer.

Five will move Trisha’s show to the 09:25 slot from 11 April, after acquiring the high profile presenter from ITV last year. Goddard, who had presented her own show on ITV since 1998, agreed a two-year deal with Five to front a weekday series, as well as a number of bigger primetime projects (see ITV Talk-Show Stalwart Jumps Ship To Five).

However, ITV recently upped the stakes in the battle for daytime programming supremacy, signing American chat show stalwart, Jerry Springer, to host a high-profile show on ITV1. Springer’s hour-long shows will air at around 9:30, going head to head with Goddard as the two broadcasters square up for a daytime duel.

Commenting on Five’s latest move, Kim Peat, controller of daytime, arts and religion for the broadcaster, said: “This is a really strong daytime line-up on Five; having the twin pairing of Trisha Goddard and The Wright Stuff leading into the news gives a high energy kick-start to the day which I know our viewers will appreciate.”

Trisha herself added: “It feels great to be moving to the morning slot as people are used to seeing me there. I look forward to tackling more real life issues and continuing to reflect the mood of the nation in our themes.”

Amongst the topics up for discussion in Trisha’s new show are “age gaps and fiery relationships,” as well as discussions around more topical issues, dictated by the day’s news.
