French Court Rules In Favour Of Sorrell

Sir Martin Sorrell has won a court case against media communication and market research group Aegis, amid accusations of industrial espionage and illegal client poaching.

The French Commercial Court of Nanteerre has ruled against Aegis subsidiary, Carat, finding that the company had made its allegations of illegal client poaching purely to obtain sensitive information about KR Media’s finances and commercial strategy, reports the Sunday Times.

Eryck Rebbouh and Bruno Kemoun, chief executives of KR Media, 20% of which is owned by Sir Sorrell’s global advertising group WPP, saw their offices raided in December as part of investigations into Carat’s allegations.

In its ruling on Friday, the court has ordered Carat to pay up to £9,065 per day, until the taken documents and data are returned.

Eryck Rebbouh and Bruno Kemoun, former chief executives for Aegis, worked for the group for 18 years and prior to their departure had consistently clashed with Aegis chief executive Doug Flynn over the future of the company. The ruling by the French court will be an embarrassment to Flynn.
