Google, iHeartMedia settle FTC lawsuit over deceptive advertising
In brief

Google and iHeartMedia have settled a $9.4m lawsuit brought by the US Federal Trade Commission and seven states (Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas) that alleged the companies aired 29,000 ads between 2019 and 2020 featuring fake testimonials from radio personalities.

The ads had promoted Google’s Pixel 4 smartphone with lines such as: “I’ve been taking studio-like photos of everything”, despite the on-air readers not owning or regularly using the phones.

Earlier this month, the tech giant settled a $392m case over data privacy breaches.
