GPRS Users Still Overcharged, Says Report

The cost of GPRS data will have to fall if it is to achieve its potential. So says a new report, GPRS Pricing Improves, But Users Still Paying A Packet, from Strategy Analytics.

GPRS has been made more accessible through the introduction of a pay-per-use pricing system. However, prices are generally found in the $10 to $20 per Mb price range, well above SA’s $5 per Mb recommendation.

“Compared with one year ago, the availability of pay-per-use charging models for packet data is widespread,” commented senior analyst Philip Taylor. “The least expensive schemes however, are those which make their low prices conditional on a subscription to a mid to high-end voice price plan.”
