Independent Reshuffles To Strengthen Solutions

The Independent has announced a management reshuffle designed to boost its creative advertising solutions department and increase the range of offerings available to clients.

The newspaper’s latest round of management musical chairs sees Keith Yonish, currently head of Independent Solutions, promoted to the newly created role of creative director. Yonish’s team will be strengthened by Suzan Antonowicz, joining the company as its new head of Independent Solutions.

The move puts Independent Solutions at the epicentre of the newspaper’s commercial department, harnessing the paper’s core values of creativity, innovation and excellence. The department was created to cater for increasing demand from clients for bespoke communication, and the newspaper states its team has already established a reputation for dynamic delivery.

Commenting on the department’s revised focus, Simon Barnes, the Independent‘s commercial director, said: “These changes will significantly strengthen our capabilities. Keith is an extremely talented member of our team and he will be instrumental in helping to shape the Independent‘s new and more dynamic approach to new business development. I am also delighted to welcome Suzan whose skill and tenacity in the field of new business will help create many new and exciting opportunities.”

Yonish’s new role will see him take responsibility for overall control of solutions work, and for developing creative thinking and delivery across the department. Meanwhile, Antonowicz will be responsible for the day to day management and development of Solutions, and for leading the development of stronger relationships with key clients.

The Independent has seen a strong few months, with circulation continuing to increase since switching to tabloid-only publication. According to the latest ABC results the newspaper saw a 19% increase year on year in the six months to September and now commands a total circulation approaching 265,000 (see ABC National Newspaper Round-Up – September 2004).

The newspaper has also experienced financial success since making the transition to tabloid format. Earlier this year the newspaper’s parent group, Independent News & Media, announced an increase in post-tax profits of over 42% to €68.1 million during the first six months of 2004 (see Record Results Push Independent’s Profits Up 42%).
