The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has announced the appointment of Moray MacLennan as the new chairman of the IPA Client Services Committee.

MacLennan is currently chairman of UK Group M&C Saatchi and is responsible for all group companies, including Lida (DM), Talk PR, M&C Sponsorship and Immediate Sales.

He joined the advertising industry as a graduate trainee at Saatchi & Saatchi in 1983, progressing to worldwide board account director on the British airways account and working on other leading accounts including Mars, Gallaher and Toyota.

Commenting on his new position, MacLennan said: “Client services is at the heart of our industry and embraces all aspects of our business. As chairman, I’ll be working to ensure that the committee continues to remain focused on what clients want and need, and how those needs may change in the future.”

The beginning of 2004 saw the IPA announce the appointment of Valerie Schafer as its new e-commerce and new media consultant, assuming responsibility for the body’s Digital Marketing Group and IPA Outdoor Group in representing the interests of outdoor advertising and digital media members (see IPA Appoints New Media Consultant To Represent Industry).

The new role saw Schafer take over from Nigel Gwilliam, who left the IPA in December to pursue personal interests. She began working in digital media in 1994 with positions within agencies and large corporations such as Citibank, Toyota, and FedEx under her belt.
