Liverpool Locks Horns With BBC One

Football The big Champions League football match between Liverpool and Marseille on ITV1 was pretty much level with BBC One’s offering of soaps and drama last night.

At 7.30pm on BBC One, EastEnders picked up a peak of 8.1 million adults (a 40% share of the audience) in an episode which ended on a cliffhanger when Phil decided to sort out Jack once and for all.

At 8pm, it was an emotional instalment of Holby City as Elliot visited James in prison. The show had a peak audience of 5.6 million adults (a 25.4% share).

Following straight afterwards on the same channel was the thrilling spy drama Spooks. It was another terrifyingly realistic romp through the cloak and dagger world of international espionage, with the Home Office having to come to terms with Ros’ betrayal.

The show had a peak of 4.5 million adults (a 20.6% share), with an average of 4.4 million adults (19.1%) sticking with it for its hour duration.

While all this was happening on BBC One, ITV1 was showing the big UEFA Champions League match between Liverpool and Marseille.

Liverpool won by four goals to nil and a peak audience of 5.7 million adults (a 26.4%) watched a magnificent performance.
