Marketing Push Planned For Emap’s Kerrang!

Kerrang! Logo Emap’s regional rock and indie station, Kerrang 105.2, is to launch a major marketing campaign over the next month, promoting the breadth of its playlist to the West Midlands area.

The marketing push will comprise a wide-reaching poster campaign including some of the world’s biggest selling artists, including Stereophonics, Oasis, Coldplay and the Killers.

Adrian Serle, managing director of Kerrang! Radio, explained the need for the promotion, stating: “This campaign helps to dispel the myth that we just play thrash metal. We don’t: and that’s why we’re the fastest growing radio station in the West Midlands.

“The station’s performance in the first year of trading reflects the demand for a real alternative to the West Midlands’ current commercial radio stations.”

The campaign features 48 and 96 sheet poster sites covering the station’s TSA for a four week period. The outdoor activity is supported by print adverts across Emap’s magazine portfolio and online properties.

Andy Price, brand manager for Kerrang! 105.2, said the promotion underlined the demand for mainstream rock music. “The fact that Oasis, Coldplay and the Killers have all been winners at this year’s major music awards highlights the demand out there for accessible rock artists,” he said. “These artists are the backbone of our playlist: if you love these bands then Kerrang! Radio has to be your station of choice as we play music like this all day!”

Kerrang! 105.2 launched in June 2004, but has seen its weekly reach slip in recent months. The latest RAJAR data saw the station losing 19.8% of its audience period on period to total 260,000.
