Mistresses Lures 4.7m To BBC One

Misstresses The first episode of BBC One’s new drama series, Mistresses, gained the most adult viewers in the 9pm timeslot last night, with an average of 4.7 million tuning in.

The programme, about four friends and their intertwined lives and relationships, managed to give the channel a 19.9% audience share in the timeslot, compared to a 19.2% share for an episode of Taggart on ITV1.

More than 4.3 million watched the Scottish crime drama, in which there had inevitably been a mudur. Meanwhile, a new series of the ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation attracted over 3.2 million (13.8%) adults on average to Five.

The second instalment of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s investigation into intensive chicken farming, Hugh’s Chicken Run – which saw the TV chef break down in tears, and manage to draft in the support of pal Jamie Oliver – drew a little under 3.1 million, giving Channel 4 a 13% share.

Earlier, Emmerdale was watched by more than 7.2 million, between 7pm and 8pm, whilst EastEnders, on between 7.30pm and 8pm, lured a little short of 5.9 million.
