New Free Paper For London

New Free Paper For London

Man Reading A Newspaper Richard Addis, the former editor of the Daily Express and FT Weekend, is to launch a free daily newspaper in London at the end of March.

The new paper, called Newsstand, will be delivered each weekday morning to 30,000 upmarket London homes.

According to reports in the trade press, the paper’s content will come mostly from third parties, although it will commission some articles, including comment.

Addis has set up a company called London Bridge Publishing alongside former FT colleague Ryan Bowman in order to launch Newsstand.

Since the launch of the two afternoon freesheets, thelondonpaper and the London Lite (see thelondonpaper Launches And The Free Newspaper War Begins), the Evening Standard has seen its circulation drop, with the latest ABC figures showing that it fell by over 9000 copies month on month to December 2006 (see London Lite Closes Gap On thelondonpaper).
