New Stations Could Complete Sale Of FM Licences

Ofcom Logo Ofcom has announced that three new radio stations in Wales could complete the sale of FM commercial licences in the UK.

The regulator is advertising a new FM local commercial radio licence to cover South Wales and is also considering advertising up to two new FM commercial radio licences for coverage of most of North and Mid Wales next year.

However, it said that: “Beyond this, Ofcom has no plans to advertise any further FM local commercial radio licences for the time being in the UK.”

Ofcom estimates that the South Wales licence could achieve coverage of an area with an adult (aged 15+) population of around 950,000.

The closing date for the receipt of applications for the licence is December 12 2006.
