Now Editor To Leave

Ipc Media Logo Helen Johnston, editor of IPC women’s weekly Now is set to leave the role to join a top-secret start-up project.

Johnston has been editor of Now for just seven months, having joined the magazine in April.

A report on MediaGuardian.co.uk quoted Johnston as saying: “After very careful consideration, I have decided to leave Now to pursue a new job on an exciting launch project.

“I’d like to thank everyone in IPC for all the support they have given me whilst I have been here – I have loved my time at Now and wish the magazine and the team every success in the future.”

In August, Now unveiled a new look, featuring a fresh design and a more direct layout and full interaction with its website (see Now Magazine Unveils New Look).

Johnston, who took over Jane Ennis, oversaw the redesign, which also included more insider analysis on the stories behind the news and prompts for readers to check out the wesbite.

The latest ABC data, for January to June 2007, shows that Now‘s circulation was down by more than 45,500 copies year on year, a fall of 8.5%.

The title currently has a total circulation figure of over 494,000 (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2007: Take A Break Stays Top Of Women’s Weeklies Amidst Sizeable Declines).
