Nielsen//NetRatings reports that online auction sites in the US grossed $556 million in May 2001, a year on year rise of 149%.
In a survey of 35,000 net users, Nielsen found that more than 6.2 million people made purchases from online auction sites in May 2001 and such spending accounted for more than 10% of total ecommerce revenue for the month.
Total ecommerce spend for May was almost $5.4 billion dollars, an increase of 104% from last May’s total of $2.6 billion.
