Orange To Launch IPTV Service This Year

Orange Orange is to launch its IPTV service before the end of the year, with plans to offer a hybrid VoD and Freeview package.

Tim Pearson, director of IPTV at Orange UK, told Media Week that with the IPTV platform coming on stream, the company is looking at offering clients the ability to run campaigns across its broadband, TV and mobile platforms.

“We can look at cross-platform advertising and that is an interesting set of inventory to exploit,” he said. “We also have a mobile TV solution to sell across.

“Cross-platform ads is on my list to do but first I want to get the service right. With three platforms we could do multi-platform ads, but we need to work out the model.”

Orange TV will become the latest IPTV service in Britain – along with Tiscali TV (see National Roll-Out For Tiscali TV) and BT Vision (see Long Time Coming – BT’s Vision).

“At Orange, we already have relationships with major content companies and we are working to extend these,” Pearson added.

Last week, it was announced that the founder of early ISP Pipex, Peter Dawe, is to launch a new competitor in the market – Babel TV – a device combining a Freeview set-top box, PVR and broadband connection (see Pipex Founder Launches New IPTV Service).
