Over Half Of UK Mobile Users Uninterested In Advanced Services

More than half of UK mobile users believe that there is nothing of interest that their mobile phone could offer other than the standard voice and text applications, according to a survey by Mediaedge:cia.

However, the survey of 500 adults found that whilst the majority are not interested in any of the advanced services of mobile phones, there are still 5% of people planning on upgrading to picture message-enabled within the next six months. Currently, around 7% of users have picture message phones.

Similarly, around 5% expect to upgrade to video message capability by the end of the year, roughly three times the number of current users.

Separate forecasts from Forrester Research predict that there will be 42.1 million mobile subscribers in the UK this year, rising to 48.4 million by 2008 (see European Mobile Penetration Will Hit 80% Ceiling, Says Forrester).
