Playstation 3 Christmas Ad Campaign Shelved

Video Game Sony’s £40 million Christmas TV advertising push for its Playstation 3 console has been shelved after the video game giant pushed back the console’s European launch date.

The entertainment system was to be launched in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from November 17 2006, but Sony has now revised this date to March 2007.

Sony was apparently to spend £10 million on a huge campaign in the UK, with £40 million being spent in total on advertising the console across Europe and Australasia.

Sony says that the launch date revision has been caused by “a delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in Playstion 3.”
