Heart breakfast presenters: Holden and Theakston

Global’s largest radio brands, Heart and Capital, have each suffered double-digit declines in audiences in the commercially important breakfast timeslot, the latest Rajar audience survey has revealed.

Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston & Amanda Holden was down 10.7% year on year to 3.63 million average weekly listeners, or -2% compared to the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp was down 11.4% year on year to 2.51 million average weekly listeners.

The UK’s most popular breakfast radio station, Radio 2, managed to grow its listenership versus last year (2.1%) and last quarter (1.3%) to 7.37 million. However Radio 4 and Radio 1 each declined to 5.93 million (down 8.2%) and 4.08 million (down 1.2% respectively).

Rajar measures the number (in thousands) of the UK adult population who listen to a station for at least five minutes in the course of an average week. This quarter’s survey spans the three months leading up to 18 September.
