The DVD market is about to enjoy its second boom, says a new report, as the DVD recorder is poised for take off as prices begin to fall.
Report author, Simon Murray said: “The DVD recorder market is set to take off extremely quickly for exactly the same reasons as the DVD player – low retail prices.”

The initial target for DVD recorders will be developed countries, where DVD penetration is already above 50%. It is forecast that more than 11 million DVD recorder homes will be added this year alone, with a further 25 million in 2005.
By 2010, DVD player penetration is expected to reach 46% globally – double the 2004 figure – adding more than 11 million homes this year alone, with a further 25 million expected in 2005.
By the end of this year, 232 million DVD player homes are expected, more than 200 million more than the 2000 figure, while another 68 million homes are forecast to be added in 2005, taking the total number of DVD homes to 493 million by 2010.
