Sharman Leaves BBC For ITV

ITV Logo ITV has announced the appointment of Alison Sharman as director of factual and daytime, creating a new role for the current controller of children’s programming at the BBC.

The move will see Sharman responsible for an extended department that encompasses factual and daytime programming as well as children’s, current affairs, religious and arts programming.

In her role at the BBC, Sharman was in charge of digital channels CBeebies and CBBC, as well as CBBC branded programming on BBC1 and BBC2. She was responsible for a number of significant commissions at the Corporation during her time, including the return of Jackanory and the first ever drama documentary for children based on the events of the London bombings.

Prior to this, Sharman was head of daytime at the BBC where she introduced pioneering new content including current affairs strand Britain’s Secret Shame. Before joining the BBC, Sharman worked at BSkyB, TV-am and as a programme maker for Channel 4.
