Sky Picks Curtis As New Advertising Sales Boss

Sky Media has appointed Paul Curtis to the newly created position of deputy managing director, following the departure of Mark Chippendale as head of advertising sales last month.

Curtis, currently managing director of Viacom Brand Solutions, will report to Nick Milligan, managing director of Sky Media, with a brief to deliver more integrated solutions to advertisers and maximise effectiveness across its portfolio of channels and interactive services.

Commenting on the appointment, Nick Milligan said: “Paul has transformed Viacom Brand Solutions and he is in a class of his own. I am very proud that he wants to sit beside me at Sky Media as we look to move this business forward over the coming months.”

Curtis added: “I am proud of what we have achieved in the three years at Viacom Brand Solutions and I look forward to the opportunity to do the same on a bigger stage at Sky. It is an exciting time to join Sky; the new marketing approach is a softer and more distinctive message to the consumer. I sense this is a new era for the entire business.”

The new position will allow Curtis to build on his broadcast experience, having has overseen the growth of Viacom Brand Solutions since joining the company from Five. While working with Five, then known as Channel 5, Curtis held positions as deputy sales director at the channel’s launch, before progressing to the role of chief executive of Channel 5 Interactive.

Sky’s decision to bring in Curtis follows Mark Chipendale’s resignation after fourteen years at the satellite broadcaster. The high-profile departure, which was announced at the end of last month, came shortly after Nick Milligan was appointed to a newly created position effectively above Chipendale’s (see BSkyB’s Head Of Advertising Sales To Step Down).
