Telegraph Targets Commuters With Weekend Rail Guide

The Sunday Telegraph will this weekend publish the first part of its Commuter Guide 2004 in an attempt to give city-bound travellers handy information on country life within easy reach of London.

The guide, the second part of which will be published on 16 May, gives detailed information on key commuter train lines into London and provides descriptions of all the towns along the way, house prices, journey times and even highlights the top schools in each area.

The special A4-sized publication will concentrate on lines leading North and West out of London, while lines leading South and East out of London will be covered in the second supplement.

The guides will be backed by 30-second television advertisements created by Clemmow Hornby Inge. The campaign will will air on Channel 4 and satellite channels from 5 May to 8 May for part one, and 12 May to 15 May for part two.

As well as providing useful information for those enduring the daily slog into London, the Commuter Guide serves as a taster for The Sunday Telegraph Guide To Commuterland by Caroline McGhie, due to be published in September by Aurum Press.

Commenting on the benefits of the A4 supplement, McGhie said: “Many people dream of living in the countryside but think they are trapped by their careers. This guide is full of useful information on the best countryside locations within easy reach of the capital to help them make that move.”

The Telegraph has embarked on a number of high profile supplements of late, most recently the newspaper created a guide to buying property abroad, entitled France and Spain Unlocked. The 32-page guide gave readers valuable insight into how to make their long desired moves away from the city (see Telegraph Holds Key To Europe With Property Supplement).
