The City’s view on the future of TV

Speaking to Newsline during the 2016 Connected Consumer Conference, Peel Hunt media analyst Alex DeGroote shared an investor’s view on the health of the UK TV market.

Covering the threat from YouTube and other online disruptors, the impact of political uncertainty and offering a City view on the TV ad market’s general health, DeGroote says broadcasters must remain vigilant in an increasingly fragmented and competitive market.

DeGroote also forecasts a positive second-half of the year for TV advertising – wholly dependent on remaining in the EU.

“As soon as the EU referendum is over, TV faces an important six months,” he says.

“In that time, and assuming the UK chooses to remain, TV advertising should snap back – because the UK economy is OK, the advertising marketplace is pretty good. All the ingredients are there for a good second half.”
