Titan Scoops CIE Account From Hopeful Viacom Outdoor

Titan Logo Titan Outdoor Ireland has scooped the five year contract to sell transit and rail advertising across all of operator CIE’s locations in the Republic of Ireland.

The win sees Titan take over the contract from Viacom Outdoor, which had previously expressed hope to retain the sales rights, following Maiden Outdoor’s withdrawal from negotiations last year (see Viacom Hopeful For CIE Contract Following Maiden Withdrawal).

The contract is believed to be worth around €12 million and includes advertising on the exterior and interior of over 1,150 buses, all advertising on the DART commuter rail system, as well as over 11,000 road and rail side billboards throughout Ireland.

“The award of the CIE contract represents Titan Worldwide’s first venture in the European market. We are excited to bring our unique transit sales focus to the business. Our goal will be to build coverage and frequency that will benefit our advertisers and generate significant revenue for CIE,” said Donald Allman, Titan’s chief executive.

Titan believes there to be “considerable untapped potential” in the CIE portfolio, and will seek to leverage the transit giant’s strong brand image and recent investment of €1.3 billion in rolling stock.

The outdoor specialist will install transit advertising veterans James Barry and Stephen Dunn to head the Irish operation as managing director and sales director respectively.

Explaining his intentions over the next five years, Barry said: “Our vision for the CIE advertising business is to bring fresh creative ideas into the system. In the United States, Titan has introduced a multitude of new and innovative advertising formats to the transit authorities in Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Seattle, Orange County and California, pledging significant capital improvements in many of these systems.”

December 2005 saw rival Viacom Outdoor hopeful of retaining the CIE contract, with the company’s chief executive Tom Goddard claiming the firm’s “strong, considered bid” put it in a “good position” to continue development of opportunities within CIE (see Viacom Hopeful For CIE Contract Following Maiden Withdrawal).
