Trinity Launches Two New Regional Titles

Trinity Mirror has launched two new free weekly newspapers in the Warwick and Leamington Spa areas of the Midlands, bringing the company’s total number of publications for the region to 43.

The new titles, the Warwick Times and Royal Leamington Spa Times, will be published by Coventry Newspapers, adding to Trinity’s portfolio in the area, which includes the Coventry Evening Telegraph, Birmingham Evening Mail and Solihull Times.

The newspapers’ average issue will be over 100 pages, including news and reviews from the local area as well as advertising platforms including recruitment, motors and property. Reaching 85% of homes in the Warwick and Leamington Spa areas, the new titles will give advertisers access to an audience in which 61% of adults are in the ABC1 demographic.

Along with the creation of the new papers, Trinity will also rename the Kenilworth Citizen, launched in February (see Trinity Mirror Launches 40th Midlands Newspaper), as the Kenilworth Times in order to maintain consistency among its South Warwickshire portfolio.

The new titles were launched with an event at Warwick Castle on Wednesday attended by leading companies from the area, as well as the Mayor of Leamington Spa, who toasted the first bundle printed from the press.

Commenting on the new launches, Andrew Punshon, group series editor of Coventry Weekly Newspapers, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our operation into the Leamington and Warwick areas and I am thrilled that Darren [Parkin] has agreed to edit the papers.

“We will give readers papers packed full of community-based stories that matter to them and will endeavour to be the first with local news and features.”

Debbie Davies, advertisement director for Coventry Newspapers, added: “There are so many local businesses in Warwick and Leamington Spa and the Times series will provide them with a way to reach over 40,000 homes in these towns.”
