TV Market Round-Up: January 2010

Televisions

New figures show that ITV1’s revenue was up 1.5% year on year in January, with Five seeing a massive 21% increase.

ITV1’s revenues were around £94.1 million in January, up from 92.7 million in January 2009.

Five’s revenue’s hit 13.4 million for the month, the latest figures show, while Channel 4 saw a 3.4% fall.

GMTV, meanwhile, enjoyed a 5.8% rise year on year.

ITV Franchises

Comparing ITV franchise revenue shares, the largest share was provided by Central at 15.32%.

Carlton provided a 14.19% share, down 0.91 percentage points year on year, while LWT had a 12% share, up 0.45 percentage points.

Meridian, North West/Border and Yorkshire/North East also provided revenue shares of more than 10%.

Costs Per Thousand

It was a good month for Five, with its CPT price up across all our featured audiences. The biggest increase was for the Women audience, up 31.5% year on year.

ITV1’s price was down for all audiences bar Housewives with Children,  which grew 0.4% on January 2009.

Channel 4 saw CPT price decline across the board, with the greatest fall coming for Housewives with Children, down 10.9% year on year.

Commercial Impacts

Commercial impacts at ITV1 were up year on year across all our featured audiences in January. Both Women and ABC1 Adults recorded the biggest increases, up 6.8% year on year.

Channel 4 was also up across all audiences; Housewives with Children was the broadcaster’s biggest growth audience, up 8.4%.

Five went the other way, with all audiences down year on year. Women recorded the largest fall, down 8%.

Total Broadcast commercial impacts were up in all categories. The biggest increase (7.7%) was for Housewives with Children.
