UBC To Sell Radio Airtime For Chrysalis And TWG

Digital radio broadcaster and programme producer, UBC Media Group, has announced that it has been appointed by Chrysalis and The Wireless group to sell airtime for its new syndicated news bulletin airtime package.

Launching on the 1st October 2005, UBC’s Media Network’s news package will have a weekly reach of 5 million adults in the UK, with 27 million impacts. It will be carried on all radio stations in the Chrysalis portfolio, including Heart 106.2, Galaxy and LBC in London, as well as TWG’s national speech radio, talkSPORT.

Commenting on the deal, John Quinn, UBC Media’s commercial director said: “Today’s announcement significantly broadens the company’s network syndication business.”

He continued: “Over time we fully expect to expand the reach of the newly created Network News package. National advertisers will also benefit as we further extend our geographical coverage and audience delivery.”

Don Thomson, Chrysalis radio’s commercial director added: “UBC have demonstrated their ability to sell our other network properties, Entertainment News, Traffic and Travel. The addition of the Network News package will strengthen their propositions considerably.”

The Network News package adds a third and potentially lucrative airtime sales opportunity to UBC Media’s commercial division, which is already one of the largest providers of syndicated programming to commercial radio in the UK.

Currently offering advertisers a total of 169 million adult impacts per week across radio stations owned by major broadcasters such as Chrysalis, GCap Media and GMG, the Network Drive traffic and travel package feeds 174 stations and has a reach of 15 million individuals and 140 million impacts.

Earlier this summer, UBC announced an increase of 39% in advertising revenues year on year for the first six months of 2005. The company’s fortunes have been boosted by a strong first quarter with trading “significantly” higher than last year (see UBC Sees Strong Growth In Ad Revenues).
