The US’ three major broadcasters—ABC, CBS, and NBC—all opted not to carry former president Donald Trump’s announcement last night that he would again run for president in 2024.
Instead, they each stuck with previously scheduled programming.
Cable news coverage was mixed: Fox News carried most of Trump’s speech live, CNN carried the first 25 minutes before moving to a panel discussion, and MSNBC did not air the speech live at all.
Following criticism of CNN’s coverage of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, new chairman Chris Licht has reportedly warned against letting a Trump candidacy dominate campaign coverage.
Chris also offered some guidance on how CNN would cover a candidate Trump. He said that coverage decisions would be made on a case-by-case basis, and he warned against letting a potential Trump candidacy take up all the oxygen in campaign coverage. https://t.co/8jskq7hGxq
