There will be 40.4 million DVR subscriber households (34.8% of TV households) in the US by the end of 2011, according to Magna Global’s latest forecast, up from its estimate of 21.7 million (19.5% of TV households) as of the end of the second quarter of 2007.

By 2011, Magna Global expects that true video-on-demand (distinct from the simulated VOD offered by DBS providers DirecTV and EchoStar) will reach 62.3 million US households (approximately 53.6% of television households and 95.2% of all cable and telco subscribers).

This compares with 33.1 million US VOD households (29.8% of total TV households and 48.5% of all cable and telco subscribers) at the end of the first quarter of 2007.

As of the end of June 2007, Magna Global estimates that 61.3 million households had broadband access out of 116.2 million total households. It also estimates that internet access was enjoyed by approximately 77.8 million households by the end of the second quarter of 2007.

It expects that total broadband access will rise to cover 90.7 million households (74.9% of the total) by the end of2011.

A recent report from Leichtman Research Group said that more than one in every five households in the United States now have a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) – up from about one in every thirteen households just two years ago (see DVRs Now In Over One In Five US Households).
