Virgin Media Adds 13,000 Customers in Q3

Virgin Media Logo Virgin Media added 13,000 customer net additions in the third quarter, following a loss of 70,300 in the second quarter.

The company put the Q2 loss down to the company’s dispute with Sky over carriage of the broadcaster’s basic channels package (see Virgin Media And Sky: The Story So Far).

Broadband net additions in the quarter were 115,800, a big rise from 45,800 in the second quarter, whilst 20,400 TV net additions, up from 2,200 in Q2.

Triple Play penetration was up to 40.7% from 38.7% a year ago, whilst VoD views hit 23m, up 24% on the previous quarter.

The company also announced a rise in operating income to £47m for the third quarter of 2007, up from £3m in Q2.

Acting chief executive Neil Berkett said: “Our third quarter results show a significant turnaround in customer and RGU growth with our best customer, broadband and telephony growth since the cable merger in March 2006.

“With the cable merger integration expected to be complete by year end, we can focus on continuing to improve the fundamentals, enhancing our products, reducing our churn, and delivering on our competitive strengths.”

Berkett took on the role in August following Steve Burch’s decision to leave the post, citing family and personal reasons (see Virgin Media CEO Steps Down).
