Visits To Retail Websites Increase Year-On-Year

Visits to the Hitwise UK Retail Index (an index of 100 of the top retailers based on visits) continued strongly last week, and were up 8% year-on-year, according to new analysis from Hitwise.

However, Hitwise reports that the week ending December 9 saw visits to online retail sites reach their highest peak this year, the same week as in December 2005.

The ‘nintendo wii’ continued to be the most searched-for gadget for the 4 weeks to December 16, whilst eBay UK and Amazon UK were the most visited online retail sites in the UK.

Hitwise adds that of the top 10 most searched-for shopping brands as of last week, 7 were high street names: Argos, Tesco, Currys, Woolworths, Comet, John Lewis and HMV.
