Visits to the Hitwise UK Retail Index (an index of 100 of the top retailers based on visits) continued strongly last week, and were up 8% year-on-year, according to new analysis from Hitwise.
The ‘nintendo wii’ continued to be the most searched-for gadget for the 4 weeks to December 16, whilst eBay UK and Amazon UK were the most visited online retail sites in the UK.
Hitwise adds that of the top 10 most searched-for shopping brands as of last week, 7 were high street names: Argos, Tesco, Currys, Woolworths, Comet, John Lewis and HMV.

Recent research from comScore Networks revealed that the week ending December 3 was the most active cyber shopping week to date in both the UK and Germany, with visits to secure web pages up 69% and 72% versus the pre-holiday shopping period from August 28 to October 29 (see Online Shopping Increases In Run Up To Christmas).
